Episode #47: July chat

It’s July – summer in the northern hemisphere!

As things have quieted down around us, this month’s chat is about two pieces of research recently published by our host Keetie Roelen.

First, a new report about living on little income in new housing areas in the city of Milton Keynes, UK. With the government having pledged to build 1.5 million homes by 2029, this research looks into the reality of living in new houses on new developments when budgets are tight. Localised research with lessons relevant for national and international contexts!

Second, new research on the role of coloniality in social protection in low- and middle-income countries. Implemented by The Open University in collaboration with the IDOS research institute in Germany, a collection of three papers explores the footprint of colonial legacies, continued postcolonial influences and domestic political economy factors in how social protection in Africa, especially in Cote d’Ivoire and Tanzania, is shaped and re-shaped.

And finally, it’s the six-month anniversary of The Empathy Fix! If you haven’t checked it out already, do so here. And keep an eye on upcoming events and media engagement!
