It’s been a while, but for good reason. In the past 9 months, I’ve been focusing my efforts on finishing a book, and it’s very nearly there.
The Empathy Fix. Why Poverty Persists and How to Change It will be out on 30 January 2025!
Published by Allen and Unwin UK, this non-fiction book reveals how our attitudes and approaches to poverty often make things worse rather than help people live better lives. It draws on global evidence and – importantly! – on many conversations that I have had the privilege of hosting on Poverty Unpacked.
As the so-called trade announcement of the book describes: “At a time of growing inequality, increased socioeconomic uncertainty and unacceptable levels of hardship, and with millions around the world struggling to make ends meet, tackling poverty has never been more urgent. But why is it so difficult to fix?”
I explore why we suffer a collective empathy deficit, and how we can tap into empathy for more dignified and ultimately better ways of tackling poverty.
With all of the writing and much of the book editing now out of the way, the podcast is back! Leading up to the launch of the book early next year, I will return to the mic and have conversations with more amazing guests who will give insight into issues, challenges and solutions in the book.
Sneak preview… learn about poverty premiums from Fair by Design and get ready for gentle protest with Sarah Corbett from the Craftivist Collective.
Can’t wait to be back – episode #38 to drop in September!
PS. If you want to get your hands on the books asap, pre-orders available already! 😉
